At this year’s 3D Pipeline Workshops @ SIGGRAPH 2025, hosted by RapidPipeline, Consensive GmbH presented a breakthrough in real-time 3D streaming for large-scale digital twins and immersive XR experiences.
Who is Consensive?
Based in Germany and led by Dr. Alexander Kulik, Consensive specializes in social mixed reality, connecting people through shared 3D experiences in research, education, industry, and culture.
Their XR solutions enable users to explore, train, and collaborate inside digital twins of real-world places, machinery, and infrastructure, from museums to industrial plants.
The Challenge
Displaying massive 3D datasets, such as cultural heritage reconstructions or detailed CAD assemblies, across devices has long been a bottleneck. Traditional streaming formats either overload memory or sacrifice quality, making true large-scale collaboration nearly impossible.
The Joint Solution: GLoD + RapidPipeline
To overcome these limits, Consensive developed GLoD (Geometry Level of Detail), a new, output-sensitive 3D streaming format that delivers only the level of detail required in real time.
Behind the scenes, RapidPipeline powers GLoD’s mesh and texture optimization process.
Its automation ensures:
🧩 Boundary and appearance preservation even at high compression levels
⚙️ Precise LOD hierarchy generation for smooth data streaming
🔄 Seamless integration into Consensive’s Unity runtime and cloud-based pipeline
Together, this creates a scalable workflow for large-model social XR, where even gigabyte-sized models can be streamed interactively across headsets, desktops, and mobile devices.
🎥 Watch the Presentation
Watch Dr. Alexander Kulik (CEO, Consensive) present how GLoD and RapidPipeline enable real-time 3D streaming for massive digital twins and social XR experiences, recorded during the 3D Pipeline Workshops @ SIGGRAPH 2025.
The Impact
With GLoD powered by RapidPipeline, Consensive can now:
- Stream massive digital twins across platforms in real time
- Enable multi-user collaboration without heavy cloud infrastructure
- Achieve higher visual fidelity and reduced distortion compared to legacy formats like Nexus
- Deliver efficient, portable XR experiences for museums, training, and industry
From cultural heritage preservation to industrial training, these tools make large 3D datasets accessible, interactive, and collaborative, wherever users are.
Looking Ahead
Consensive’s VR4more runtime and GLoD Builder tools continue to evolve, offering developers and institutions new ways to create distributed, scalable social XR environments.
By combining Consensive’s expertise in social XR with RapidPipeline’s 3D optimization, this partnership is shaping the future of large-scale 3D collaboration.
